Sunday Drabble Dare

It's been a great first week for the Burrow Blog! We are thrilled to have you here to share this with us. To celebrate this fact we are launching what we hope will become another success... Every Sunday from now on we intend to post a picture - it may be a photograph, it might be a classical painting, or perhaps it will be a drawing made by one of the Junior Burrowers? The purpose of this picture – whatever it will be – is to inspire all of YOU! Because we want your stories...

If you read yesterday's post, you will already know that the Burrow has a history of combining artwork with short, short stories, more specifically the 100 word long (short!) ones – drabbles. We find that the format fits us quite well, and now we would like to request all of you to join! The challenge is as follows:

Write a drabble to the picture below. It is your choice entirely how the picture is linked with your drabble – or if the link is visible at all. Once you have made sure your drabble is ready (make sure to test that it is exactly 100 words – a handy tool for this purpose is the Burrow's very own Jason's custom designed word count tool), send it to us at theburrow360 at gmail.com.

By the end of next week we will have come up with a winner, who will be announced on Saturday. Since we are planning to make this a weekly feature, there will be no prizes, but the honour and glory of being picked as the Burrow's weekly winner is definitely worth putting on your resumé! Also, we will naturally be delighted to post the winning drabbles on this site.

The picture you should all print out and hang over your desk is:

So, is everything clear? Let me repeat:
Write a drabble (100 word long story)

Send it to theburrow360 @ gmail.com by Thursday, midnight, GMT. Make sure to write "drabble challenge" in the subject field of the email.

Bite fingernails until Saturday – and check back in!
(Of course you are also allowed to read all the other lovely blog posts that will appear in this spot all week long!)

NB! THIS CHALLENGE IS NOW CLOSED!
Please check back in on Saturday for the results, and on Sunday for a new image to trigger your drabblability!

A very neat contest and one to get our minds pondering the possibilities.

Whew. I had a much easier time with yesterday's. Maybe my head's not in the game, yet. Good thing we have until Thursday! :)

I'm done, and my stuff is mailed. It wasn't easy to end up on exactly 100 in a proper way >:)

cold as heaven- It can be a challenge when you have too few words.

*add a few adjectives*

However, it can be difficult also when you have too many words. I generally just cut out non-essentials.

Good luck everyone!

Rosie - so glad you're in! Looking forward to reading your drabble :)

Cold as Heaven - looking forward to reading yours as well.

Yay for participants! :)

Chary - I almost always start off with too few words, and then when I start to add I end up with way too many... It's a tricksy form of writing, isn't it?

Don't know if I'm ready to try this. I love the drabble I've come across lately
and I'd hate to insult those efforts.

Mary - oops, we had a reply glitch there... I see you didn't participate this time around, but we would be very happy if you'd give it a go for one of the new challenges. I'd love to read what you've got, and this is a VERY low-pressure sort of challenge :)
